Your Dutch health insurance in 2025

Everyone in the Netherlands can change their health insurance between the 13th of November and the 31st of December. During this period, you can either switch to a different health insurance provider or modify your existing policy, such as adjusting your personal contribution (eigen bijdrage).

Why should you consider switching health insurance providers?

First, by comparing quotes from different health insurance providers, you can potentially lower your monthly costs. Keep in mind that prices will rise in 2025, with an average increase of €379 per year compared to 2024. Therefore, make sure to compare 2025 prices from different providers, rather than relying on your current plan.

Second, take a close look at your own situation—has anything changed? For instance, do you now need more physical therapy, dental work, or are you planning to get pregnant? Be sure to carefully review the aanvullende zorgverzekering (supplemental insurance) options from various health insurance providers to ensure they meet your current and future needs.

How does switching to another health insurance work?

It's very simple. Every health insurance provider offers a free overstapservice (switching service). This means they will cancel your current health insurance for you and ensure that, starting from the 1st of January, you are fully insured with your new provider.

What happens if you don’t anything.

This is easy, nothing will change. Bare in mind that in 2025 your monthly costs will go up. On average you will have to pay 379 euro per year more in 2025. Because there is a 450 euro per year difference between the most expensive and cheapest health insurer, it can be wise to check some quotes, see some insurers here. This is mainly because of rising health care costs for the Netherlands as a whole.
